It happened to me, apparently at random, that some email notifications were not sent and bounces were left in the queue saying that the MX servers were not responding…
It is best to keep both copies of the configuration in sync:
/etc/dma/dma.conf/usr/local/etc/dma/dma.conf
Depending on how it was installed, or which uid/gid invokes dma or sendmail, it may not read the local configuration and only use the global one, or viceversa.
